Choose Your Own Adventure!

I hope you all enjoyed a nice break.  It's always hard coming back to school after break. Don't get me wrong, I love teaching and being surrounded by all the crazy, creative energy that is all of you. That being said, it's still hard to get back into the grind. So for our first blog post, I'll go easy on you.

This week we will start our study of the Constitution and the freedoms that make us uniquely American. You can order your own free copy of the United States Constitution from: http://www.constitutionfacts.com/index.cfm?section=bookstore&page=freeCopy.cfm

A good portion of this class will be spent discussing current events and political issues that affect our everyday lives. For this post, I would like you to tell me at least one issue that you are interested in studying. To help you out, you can look over the blog posts that we've had in the past several years to get an idea of the type of things we've covered. Many of the topics are pretty controversial and I do my best to not censor the information available to you.

So my question to you this week is, "What is one issue that you are interested in studying in this class?" Answers are due no later than Wednesday, October 12th, 2016. I'm looking forward to a great quarter!

  1. There are a plethora of topics that I am interested in discussing that you have previously blogged about yet if I had to pick out one it would be about abortions. In specific, discussing about the whole ordeal with Planned Parenthood and what the arguments are for and against them.

  2. There are many topics that I would like to learn more about, and I honestly cannot narrow it down to just one topic, so my top three topics would be the death penalty, censorship, and assisted suicide.

  4. I'm interested in the War on Drugs and what it is doing to America in the stand point of if it's creating a bigger problem or if it is actually helping society. I am also interested in the debates about abortions and the aspects of both Pro-Life and Pro-Choice.

  5. The one issue I'm interested in studying in this class, is the education system within hiring teachers. Lately there have been teachers arrested for sexual encounters with students. I would also like to know why police officers get away with not doing any jail time when it comes to unjustifiable killings

  6. I am Interested in many topics but one of the main ones would have to be animal cruelty. A law was just passed that animal abuse is a felony now and Im more than happy that that was passed and I would like to talk more about it and learn more.

  8. This is Katie Cross: I have always had a very strong opinion on the way Christianity and religion in general are treated in school, college, or in your job. While I understand that its not exactly a common thing to talk about now days, as a Christian I feel like that is where the problem is beginning. So many rights are being taken away from Christians because they are not allowed to talk about their beliefs whenever they want to. Stopping children and adults from talking about their religion violates our right to freedom of speech, and its also discrimination. Sure I sound like a “bible thumper” but the truth is that I actually never really read the bible. I tend to look up verses for inspiration or guidance and yet I still have a very strong connection with God. I also believe that Christians shouldn’t force another person to believe in God when they don’t want to because even the Bible says that it is not a single persons place to force religion to a nonreligious person. But nobody has the right to force someone to act like they have no religious faith when they in fact have a very strong faith. Its so wrong and there were days when schools didn’t do this and I feel like we should go back to those days. America is the land of the free, so why are we taking freedom away when this freedom was declared many many years ago?

  9. One topic that I feel passionate about is the concept of religion and how it plays into our legal system and everyday lives as American citizens. This issue can be quite sensitive for some, I know. However, having grown up in a devout Catholic household, I know how fervent many individuals can be in the ability to openly practice their beliefs and spread the word of it. I fully respect their right to indulge in what they believe in. On the other hand, I think that people should first focus on facts. Therefore, I think that religion should not be so pressed in our society, especially government.
