Mudslinging

Like a lot of you, I’ve been feeling pretty disillusioned with the candidates this election cycle.  I know politics and campaigns can get pretty nasty, but this year has topped any year in recent history.  Between the vile, misogynistic and discriminatory language coming from the Trump campaign and the shadiness and dishonesty surrounding the Clinton campaign; even I have started to avoid discussions surrounding the candidates.  This week a decade old tape was released of Donald Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women.  WikiLeaks followed by releasing hacked emails in which Hillary Clinton seems to allude to the fact that she is misleading voters about her stances on some of the issues.
So my question to you this week is three-fold: First, I would like to know “Do you think these revelations about either candidate will make a difference in how people vote?”  Second, I would like you to take this quiz, which will ask you about your thoughts on certain topics, and then tell you which candidate most closely matches your own viewpoints.  It also allows you to tell it how important an issue is to you. You can access the quiz here:  https://www.isidewith.com/ Then tell me Which candidate’s viewpoints did the quiz match you up with?  Did that surprise you, or were you already planning to vote for that person?”
You must answer all three parts to earn full credit.  Answers are due no later than Wednesday, October 19, 2016.

  1. Personally, I don't think that many people are likely to change their vote at this point. I also believe that if you can whole hearted back either of these candidates, that you choose to be blinded by their many flaws. After taking the quiz, I was paired with Hillary Clinton with Jill Stein close behind. I wasn't very shocked because I assumed it would stick me with a major candidate. Though I would never be able to vote for someone that I knew I would never be able to trust their intentions or their words.

  2. As awful as this might sound, even with the recent scandals I do not really believe that these findings will change peoples minds about the candidate they were panning to vote on. The quiz results showed that my most matched candidate is Hillary Clinton, I am not surprised by these results as I was planning to vote for her.

  5. That's a hard question because some people vote based on if they like the candidate and others vote based on Republican or Democrat no matter what candidate is running. I believe that people will vote based on which party they like because both candidates are disliked. The test said that i will vote for Jill Stein (Green).

  6. I personally think these recents scandals will have people rethink who they might be voting for. The scandals can open the eyes of many and see who they really are and might change their minds about their vote. For the quiz I got paired with Jill Stein. this surprised me because I have no idea who she is or have even heard her name come up while this election is going on. Close behind I was paired with Hilary Clinton which did not surprise me. Donald Trump was at the very bottom of 4% match which that was not surprising at all.

  7. For the most part, I don't believe the recent scandals of the candidates are going to have a major impact on voters' current opinions of the candidates, at least not to the point of changing their votes. The scandals only helped to strengthen opinions about them. For example, Trump was already seen as incredibly insensitive, and Hillary was already viewed as shady and two-faced. If anything, these scandals just reduced the number of people headed to the polls. The quiz told me that I aggree with Hillary on 97% of the issues...dang. However, with my far left liberal beliefs on the majority of the issues addressed in mind, I was not surprised. I was already planning on voting for Hillary, anyway.

  8. Realistically i think the bigger question is are we ready for a female president. We all know candidates fluff up stories and even lie to make sure they can get our votes. Donald Being bar the biggest as we commonly know. So Hillary damn near gets a pass on that. Now Donald's ignorance is on an entire different level. Its no way any shape form or fashion should anyone with that mind state or opinion should be in charge of a nation we can all agree on that. but the biggest question is "Is the Nation ready for a female president". We've had a black president for two terms no one was sure how it would turn out. but the nation took a risk and overcame a big issue which is racism and Obama won. Woman's rights is the very next issue in line right after racism. as a nation are we ready to attempt to over come that next?

  9. I don't believe that any major scandals that are coming into play are going to change what people think. I think at this point in the election process people know who they are going to vote for. When I took the quiz I matched with Jill Stein, and I was very surprised because I had no clue who she was or that she was even part of the race.

  10. At this point in the election, I don't believe voters opinions will change entirely due to what is being revealed about both candidates. Merely everyone I talk to about the election is dissatisfied with the both of them, but will more than likely just vote for the one in their party. I took the quiz and I got Jill Stein. To be honest, I did not know who she was before this, so yes I was surprised.

  14. This is Katie, sorry im really late: I think that those things WILL affect how people vote however i dont personally believe that it SHOULD matter because the fact that these things are JUST NOW coming up in this election kind of raises suspicion. I have actually taken this quiz already and i got Bernie Sanders. Im not surprised with this but I am going to vote for Trump becuase I dont want Bill Clinton to be anywhere near the white house and the last time i checked Hilary kind of ran the show when Bill was president and so i dont think she should have even been allowed to run for President. I would love for a woman to be president, just not this particular woman.

  15. My mistake I did comment on this post! My results didn't surprise me one bit, and I will be voting Clinton! :)

  16. Yes I do think the revelations will effect how people vote because Americans are very influenced by the media. After taking the quiz the candidate that I mostly match up with was Jill Stein (76%) followed by Gary Johnson(49%), Hillary Clinton(46%), then Donald trump(45%). The results of the quiz did surprise me because of all the candidates I knew the least about her so I was shocked that she is who I most sided with.
