Choose Your Own Adventure!

I hope you all enjoyed a nice break.  It's always hard coming back to school after break. Don't get me wrong, I love teaching and being surrounded by all the crazy, creative energy that is all of you. That being said, it's still hard to get back into the grind. So for our first blog post, I'll go easy on you.

This week we started our study of the Constitution and the freedoms that make us uniquely American. You can order your own free copy of the United States Constitution from: http://www.constitutionfacts.com/index.cfm?section=bookstore&page=freeCopy.cfm

A good portion of this class will be spent discussing current events and political issues that affect our everyday lives. For this post, I would like you to tell me at least one issue that you are interested in studying. To help you out, you can look over the blog posts that we've had in the past several years to get an idea of the type of things we've covered. Many of the topics are pretty controversial and I do my best to not censor the information available to you.

So my question to you this week is, "What is one issue that you are interested in studying in this class?" Answers are due no later than Wednesday, January 20th, 2016. I'm looking forward to a great quarter!

  1. I'm interested in why people suppress prayer or any Christian views in class. Also why people think it right to end a life before it even begins.

  4. I am interested in learning more about police brutality. Over the past couple years, police have been on videos killing unarmed people. That is not my issue though. My concerns are the law that allows these police officers to murder innocent people and get away scoot free such as the Saundra Bland case. I visited Mike Brown over the winter break, I was in tears seeing all the RIP and the stores that were rioted. This has really changed my views and opinions on police officer even if there are "good" ones.

  5. One topic that always fascinates me is Freedom of Speech and what does that mean to others? It is defined as "right to communicate one's opinions and ideas without fear of government retaliation or censorship." but to what extent does that mean? I also take it as, yes I can say what I would like but others have that right as well, and even if i do not agree with that I have to show some respect with that and not take that personally, so long as they have some respect for what I say and not take what I say so personally. Unfortunately I have come across people like claim to freedom of speech but cannot bear to listen or refuse to understand that others have thoughts as well. I think a lot of this is important to today's issues but is very much over looked.

  7. I'm interested in becoming more knowledgeable on our elections. I've was always taught to go towards more towards the democratic party but all candidates in a particular party may not be the best fit. So, I want to gain more knowledge on picking the right leaders for the USA. I also want to gain more knowledge on the health care system like how they determine whats best for us because I feel healthcare can be a rip off at times especially since I work for a heath care company.

  11. I don't what I'm really interested in about politics. Over time I just sick of hearing the bad news so I just decided to stay away from it. I know now though that I got to learn something and that pretty much all the information is negative. I'm hoping to just learn and see what will happen from that point on.

  18. I am interested in discussing college education. The cost, that is. Is college a scam or is it really a necessity? If it is a necessity this why is tuition so high and not affordable for everyone? Are we paying for a "quality" or our college presidents new BMW? I am so excited about this class!
