I hope you all enjoyed a nice break. It's always hard coming back to school after break. Don't get me wrong, I love teaching and being surrounded by all the crazy, creative energy that is all of you. That being said, it's still hard to get back into the grind. So for our first blog post, I'll go easy on you.
This week we started our study of the Constitution and the freedoms that make us uniquely American. You can order your own free copy of the United States Constitution from: http://www.constitutionfacts.com/index.cfm?section=bookstore&page=freeCopy.cfm
A good portion of this class will be spent discussing current events and political issues that affect our everyday lives. For this post, I would like you to tell me at least one issue that you are interested in studying. To help you out, you can look over the blog posts that we've had in the past several years to get an idea of the type of things we've covered. Many of the topics are pretty controversial and I do my best to not censor the information available to you.
So my question to you this week is, "What is one issue that you are interested in studying in this class?" Answers are due no later than Wednesday, October 14th, 2015. I'm looking forward to a great quarter!
I'm interested in learning about the adaption of the common core national education standards.
ReplyDeleteThis is Katie Brackett.
DeleteI am highly interested and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement as well as institutional racism/police brutality. These are issues I think deserve some of the highest exposure and I have a fairly vested interest in how oppression towards minorities socially affects the country.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in Gun Control. I am not for full gun control but i do believe that there could be more resurrections then what there are without fully taking guns away from the people.
ReplyDeleteNarrowing it down to one specific thing is hard. I do gravitate to more social and economical issues such as why young people are involving themselves in the political proses less and less. I am a big supporter of legalization of recreational marijuana. I tend to shy from foreign relations mainly because everyone has there own opinion and everyone just wants to argue instead of actually doing something to improve our standing in the eyes of the rest of the modern world. Global warming is also a subject I enjoy. Anti-global warming people beware. I wont lose an argument easily.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in debating over anything but being religiously straight. By that I mean the controversy over same-sex marriage, transgender, gender identity, gender fluid, and all of that. I am all for everything involving equality and just want to see how many people are against it.

I'd like to discuss more about some of the racial injustice that has happened. Though it has been widely talked about in the media when the topics were fresh, I still feel like it often gets lost and the media tends to force people to forget about current issues by distracting us with other topics that may be less important

ReplyDeleteA topic that I would like to study more about is space exploration. I think we should support it because, space is very large and full of wonders.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in learning about anything really. I want to be caught up on today's issues and become interested in politics again.
ReplyDeleteI am also interested in political issues concerning same-sex marriage. I find it mind blowing how people like Kim Davis, a county clerk from Kentucky who refused to give out marriage licenses to same-sex couples, believe that their religious views are more important than someone's right to be happy or marry the person they love.
ReplyDeletePrison reform and the inner structure of the prison system is what I'd be interested in learning about in this class. I'd also like to gain knowledge on the funding, regulations and supervision associated with this entity.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in learning about global warming, and how/why the government pretends to disbelieve that global warming is real so they can spend their funds elsewhere instead of spending money on improving and saving our planet.
ReplyDeleteI would like to study death penalty and if the federal government should or should not allow it.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in learning about the actions and different standpoints of death penalties and why it's even a choice to execute certain individuals for the crimes they have performed. It's not that I am against the idea of it, I'm just curious to learn about the different sides of it.

DeleteI am interested learning and discussing the education system, the difference in requirements and privileges between private, public, and charter schools.
ReplyDeletei am interested learning more about the government and today issues in American.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in learning about the presidential 2016 race, the LBGT community issues and also the injustice of African Americans in america, Black Lives Matter movement.
ReplyDeleteI would like to learn more about human trafficking and why it is still something that still goes on. It is very frustrating to me that we all know it is going on but I don't see what we are doing to really put an end to it once and for all.
ReplyDeleteI would like to discuss energy efficiency, the issues with our current methods of extracting coal which is 40% of our power supply in America, and how our country can transition to cleaner energy sources.
ReplyDeleteI was most interested in learning more about gun control. I am taking so much interest in this because this is a big issue in my very own community. i feel as if a handgun license is something that should be earned through practice of usage.
ReplyDeletewell, I guess a political issue I would like to learn more about is federal funding for the military. being a soldier sometimes I wonder why I get paid very little to serve my country.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know more about the most common, political issue that is always brought up in political issues and debates, "abortion". I want to know what makes it legal, what makes it illegal, what makes it moral or ethical, and is it bad all together, all the time. I am not a supporter of abortion, but i am also not completely against it. Because i believe in abortion as a choice to be given when it is a medical-related life and death issue, such as when the choice comes to save the baby or the mother, or in situations of criminal cases, such as rape and the victim has to make a decision. It is a debatable issue, because many times, whenever the presidential elections come up, this topic does come up as whether the abortion law should be kept or not.
ReplyDeleteI would like to learn about death penalty there are just too many times that an innocent man has been convicted of murder, and after being executed, evidence was found that exonerated him. But i will like to learn more about this topic.
ReplyDeletei would like to learn about issues concerning immigration laws that affect immigrants that are located in the united states.
ReplyDeleteWhat is one issue that you are interested in studying in this class?
ReplyDeleteI am interested in studying the electoral college. Who is selected to be in the electoral college and why? Why is the electoral college still in use today. Why don't we have a direct ballot where every single vote is counted. Why did George Bush win instead of Al Gore even though Al Gore won the majority vote? Why was the Florida recount supposed to cease at a certain time instead of just taking the time to count all the votes? I think there are many flaws in our voting system that need to be fixed and adapted.
I also would like to talk about corruption in government. It is a common thing to hear today that congress is bought out. How is that able to happen?
