I hope you all enjoyed a nice Spring Break. It's always hard coming back to school after break. Don't get
me wrong, I love teaching and being surrounded by all the crazy,
creative energy that is all of you. That being said, it's still hard
to get back into the grind. So for our first blog post, I'll go easy on
you.
This week we started our study of the Constitution and the
freedoms that make us uniquely American. You can order your own free
copy of the United States Constitution from: http://www.constitutionfacts.com/index.cfm?section=bookstore&page=freeCopy.cfm
A good
portion of this class will be spent discussing current events and
political issues that affect our everyday lives. For this post, I would
like you to tell me at least one issue that you are interested in
studying. To help you out, you can look over the blog posts that we've
had in the past several years to get an idea of the type of things
we've covered. Many of the topics are pretty controversial and I do my
best to not censor the information available to you.
So my
question to you this week is, "What is one issue that you are
interested in studying in this class?" Answers are due no later than Wednesday, April 16th, 2014. I'm looking forward to a great quarter!
I would like to discuss controversial issues. I am interested in what's going in today's society with our government, and not being limited to what's being published in the mainstream news and media.
ReplyDeleteI would like to discuss and see other people's views on issues that are on the verge of changing. Things like the federal legalization of marijuana and equal marriage opportunities. I would also like to discuss how to better the nations treatment of veterans.
ReplyDeleteI would like to discuss the state of poverty in our country and also how we are managing or dealing with its escalation. I feel as if too many times people think that our country is all round perfect and that we all live in happy homes with each other and we work hard, but we ignore the people who dont have homes, the bums, the beggars, the people who we see on the street and never have a second thought about.
ReplyDeleteI would like to cover women's rights, animal rights, abortion laws, and anything that's going on in North Korea. I like to discuss any current event topics, but these are just a few.
ReplyDeleteBethany Blake (I don't know how to change my old Google name lol.)
I would most like to learn about how "truth", or at least what we call truth, may only really be a construct of the information that is presented to us by the media and education system in modern American society
ReplyDeleteAs it might be said, "Whoever controls the past controls the present", and I would like to discuss the extent to which that is true in the modern day

I Would like to know what's next on Obama-care? Even as the Obama administration has solved many of the technical glitches that plagued the law's implementation this year, a lot of questions remain unanswered.
ReplyDeleteAlso, In addition, will it even be possible to focus on local issues if Obamacare receives as much attention as its gotten this year?
I would like to discuss slavery and the growing problem it is in our present day society.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know more about the gap between the upper class and the lower class. The strength of a nation's economy is best measured by the strength of its middle class. In the wake of The Great Recession, only one group has seemed to come out on top. While the ultra rich have seen windfall profits, the middle class and the poor continue to sink.
ReplyDeleteI would like to discuss same sex marriages and the views that other people have on them. I would like to hear what the opposing side has to say as well as the side that is for same sex marriage. I just want to see from both sides.
ReplyDeleteI would like to discuss police brutality, and how they are given too much leeway when they are charged with a crime.
ReplyDeleteI would like to talk about the legalization of marijuana and abortion.
ReplyDeleteI want to talk about Societal Norms, like what harmful stigmas have we adopted over the years and have become a part of how we work and operate as a society. Like how everyone still calls Native Americans Indians.
ReplyDeleteI was reading an article about Banks and our current economic situation as a nation. That lead me to question why so little of the Bank mogul, who happen to be the culprits of these Ponzi schemes, scams and rip-offs, aren't serving time. Further reading has lead me to wonder why people of certain social standing or regard seem to skate under the reach of the legal system, while the average person may get hard time for doing something tiny; and I would like to learn about that.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most current and debated topics. Which is the decriminalization or legalization of marijuana in independent states.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most recent things that has come to light is the legalization of marijuana. I am always hearing different things and reading different articles in regards to same sex marriage and I know that everyone has their own opinion but why can't a gay couple be married and live happily just as a heterosexual couple.
ReplyDeleteI would like to discuss topics on racism and how does it effect us today.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to discussing racial profiling. it effects us as a whole on a daily bases.
ReplyDeleteCedric Shirley
ReplyDeleteI'm interested into discussing how we all can change obesity, first, in the U.S.A., and then the world.
What I plan to talk about is Affirmative Action. there are so many ways this method of action could be used, it something called, "Positive Discrimination". For example, a boss gives a slacker a promotion because the slacker makes him laugh all the time, and the boss ignores a hardworking employee because he seems boring to him.
ReplyDeleteI would like to talk more about the growing power of the government and the way it is taking power away from the American people.
