Giving Thanks!

It's been a weird quarter.  From having a sub one week (thank you, Tim!) to having class on Halloween, and now missing another week due to Thanksgiving, I feel like it has been a crazy quarter.  Don't gt me wrong - I enjoy missing class every now and then as much as you do, but as an instructor, it always makes it hard to catch up.

Now, I have made it clear in class that Thanksgiving is not my favorite holiday. I don't like the way schools fictionalize a story that sounds good, while ignoring the sad facts about how we really treated Native Americans in this country. That being said, I have learned to treat Thanksgiving as a reminder of all the things I am thankful for.

This year, as always, I am thankful for my faith, my family and my friends. I was blessed this year to travel on my first mission trip and it brought me a lot further along in my walk with God.  I'm healthy and generally happy, and I am surrounded by people who love me. I have two jobs that I really enjoy, and two great classes this quarter.  Yes - when all is said and done, I have it pretty good.  I hope I never lose sight of that, and always continue to be thankful for what I have.

So, in honor of the holiday my question to you this week will be an easy one. "What are you thankful for this holiday season?" Answers are due no later than Thursday, November 28th, 2013. Please note that there WILL be a new post while we are on break - so make sure to check the blog after the holiday, but before you return to class.  I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday full of good food, good friends and good conversation! Enjoy your break!

  1. I am more thankful that ever to have a family that is supportive though every aspect of my life. Since I have moved up here and away form home, they have only strengthened their compassion and love towards me. My grandparents are such an inspiration to me and my schooling, they care about how I am doing in school. There is nothing that I am more thankful for than the family that God has blessed me with.

  2. I have an entire book of things to be thankful for. I have grandparents that have allowed me to live with them rent free and gave me a car to have at my disposal to get to and from to school just so. They also have helped me pay for my tuition and other materials I need for school. My grandfather is the one that originally started this path for me. When I was a little girl I would take straps of fabric and put them around my barbies and then he would sew the strips of fabric for me because I was too young to use the sewing machine myself. Both my grandparent have always encouraged my imagination. More times than I can count they have said I should publish some of my poems and stories I write. They raised me for most of my life. I have a mom that tries her best through her bi polar to do what she can to be there for all her kids. Not just me and the four others she gave birth to but also the friends that me and my sister have brought home and then never left. My three little brothers haven't yet brought many friends home but the ones they have my mom treats as her own. I have one sister that I have known all my life that even when we are mad at each other we will go to bat for the other. We really seem like twins at times and have been asked if we were several times. I have three little brothers from my mom as well. Stefan is thirteen and autistic, sometimes he makes me wonder why it takes someone to be autistic to be able to have such a big heart. He has an amazing heart and is so kind to others even if they are mean to him. Ever since he was three almost four he has been my little dinosaur buddy. By the time he was five he could say all the scientific names of the dinosaurs better them most adults. My little brother Alex is ten and has always been my sidekick. He learned all the words to my favorite song when I was in high school within a week. I use to play Nick FM by Hawthorn Heights just to have him sing it with me. Now he is my horror geek and wants to be old enough to watch all the horror movie I watch. Hunter is eight and you use to never be able to get a smile off his face. He is the most selfless little boy you could find and is always giving something to someone else. I have little two sisters and little brother on my dad's side of the family as well and we do our best to stay in touch with each other. Joshua stays in touch the most. He plans on me and him getting a place together when he turns eighteen. I have tons of friends to be thankful for as well. A boyfriend that is willing to help my family help me get through college even though I refuse to let him pay a dime towards my college. If I went through everything I had to be thankful for it would take a lifetime to read. I have a lot to be thankful for and every year I seem to get more reasons added on.

  4. I am firstly thankful for my family and fiancé for being so supportive in whatever it is I choose to do. Being a soon-to-be mom, I need all the support I can get and theres no one else i'd turn to for anything, but them. I'm thankful to be going through a healthy pregnancy. I'm thankful for my faith as well for never letting me go nor putting more on me than I can handle. Lastly but not least, I'm thankful for this being my last quarter of school!

  6. Everyone has something to be thankful for. In my case I am grateful for having a kind, loving, and supportive family. I am grateful for the friends I've made and the experiences that i have had, both good and bad as these have made me the person that I am. I am thankful simply to be able to be alive, especially now that I've entered a relationship with the love of my life.

The main things that I am thankful for is my family , their support, knowledge, my faith, the ability to become successful, my best friend, etc. All of the above have made me what I am today. I have been very success in the last few years and everyday I am presented with more opportunities to become more successful.

  9. I am thankful to have such great friends and family in my life. Without their support, I would be lost. They're always there by my side through the good and the bad. I am also thankful for my health as well as the new additions to my family as well.

  10. Of course I am thankful for my children, my family and friends, and the little that I have. I am truly thankful but hands down I most thankful that I know who is the head of life and that is my Lord Savior Jesus Christ. Without his grace I wouldn't have made it to see another Thanksgiving! I am thankful I know who he is and I have a relationship with him.
