Choose Your Own Adventure

It's always hard coming back to school after break. Don't get me wrong, I love teaching and being surrounded by all the crazy, creative evergy that is all of you. That being said, it's still hard to get back into the grind. So for our first blog post, I'll go easy on you.

This week we started our study of the Constitution and the freedoms that make us uniquely American. You can order your own free copy of the United States Constitution from: http://www.constitutionfacts.com/index.cfm?section=bookstore&page=freeCopy.cfm

Normally, our first blog post has something to do with the freedoms you value most and whether or not you are proud to call yourself an American. This quarter, I would like to start with something different. A good portion of this class will be spent discussing current events and political issues that affect our everyday lives. For this post, I would like you to tell me at least one issue that you are interested in studying. To help you out, you can look over the blog posts that we've had in the past several years to get an idea of the type of things we've covered. Many of the topics are pretty controversial and I do my best to not censor the information available to you.

So my question to you this week is, "What is one issue that you are interested in studying in this class?" Answers are due no later than Tuesday, October 8th, 2013. I'm looking forward to a great quarter!

  1. The one issue that angers me when it comes to our country is how it has handled our debt crisis and how it has affected our student loans. I was reading an article the other day on the Wall Street Journal about students with higher amounts of loans having to file for bankruptcy but that student loans are not applicable to be expunged. The end result being borrower companies throwing on fees and increasing interest. I think this topic will affect a lot of us in the near future.

  2. I would like to know more about the current issue with the Government shutting down all the Government parks. There are a lot of people talking about it and how it is supposed to get worse. Such as Government schools going to be closed down soon as well. The news has been on the subject here and there but not much is being said as too exactly why.

  3. I would like to discuss the issue of the government shutting down and the issue of the debt crisis as well. I don't fully understand how these issues come about in government. I would like to discuss what ways they can be solved and what has happened in the past when these issues arise.

  5. Hello Everyone! I will also love to cover the the government shutting down, but I would like to look deeper into the situation and find out who all are really effected by such. There are many that are effected, but there are more than we know. There are so many behind the scenes people that we look past on an everyday basis, so I will like to dig a little deeper. I am also curious to know what would happen if they continued to stay shut down for a long period of time. Cause and Effect!

  6. I would also like to talk about the government shutdown. I still don't understand why it happened. Also, I want to discuss why there were some issidences that occurred in Washington, DC. Like a man setting himself on fire and the lady trying to drive her car into the white house gate. What was all that about?

  7. I would like to discuss the secret agencies that our country has lead us to believe exist. How many are there? Where and why are they created? If their duty is to protect and serve us, why does that have to be so top secret?
Also, even though there is a ban on texting and driving, what are other ways that the state can insure safety on those who follow the rules. Where do we draw the line with technology in vehicles versus safety of ourselves and others around us?
How has technology changed our government system? With fingerprinting, cyber stalking Americans, and unlimited access to files, does the government control every aspect of our lives? If so, where has the "Land of the Free" gone?

  8. Another point I would enjoy discussing is stupid state laws. In Texas, it is illegal to shoot a buffalo from the second story of a hotel. So I could either go to the third story to shoot the buffalo, or stay on the second floor and find another animal to shoot. Why does this law exist?! How about New Mexico where it is illegal to vote if you are an idiot. What considers someone to be an idiot? Rules such as these that clearly have no purpose, why do they exist?

  9. One issue that I would like to discuss would be Minimum Wage and how people here in the United States are to live off making Minimum Wage. not really understanding how you want people to live with making no money but you want to have work that is so demanding but pay as little as $7.35 an hour? you can make more money dancing in a strip club but who wants to do that necessarily NO ONE! so this is something that I would like to dicuss further.......Hard Work and No Money!

  10. An issue that I'm interested in is immigration. We make such a big deal on people coming over to the U.S. but we never actually think why they come here. It could be to make a better life for themselves and their family or finding jobs. I think we spend so much time on this when theres other things in the world that should be taken care of. If anything we can help them better themselves.

    1. This is very true though illegal immigrants come here to better their lives they still have two different house hold to support in their country when they leave someone behind. The issue that the government should do is though I understand that they don't have to many rights as us citizens due I do believe that they should be at least be able to get a driver license government should realize that it is a safety issue and that is money coming

  11. I would like to cover the current national situation pertaining to the government shutdown and the national debt, but also how it effects the American people and our economic status.

  12. Since I rarely pay any mind to the news and what's going on in our country, I would just like to learn about as much as I can. But if I have to pick just one, I'm going to go with the national debt
