Slapped By the Truth or Kissed with a Lie?

I had planned to blog about healthcare this week.  However, in the current political climate, it seems there is breaking news almost every day.  So, I decided to go with recent events – even more recent than the healthcare legislation.  This week, President Trump fired FBI Director, James Comey after the Justice department, and more specifically, the Deputy Attorney General recommended it.  According to the recommendation, Comey needed to be fired because of the way he mishandled the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State.
To many, it seems suspicious that Trump waiting this long before firing Comey, if the true reason was because of how he handled the investigation of Clinton which was going on thoughout the campaign season.  Especially considering that in March, the FBI publically announced it was conducting an investigation into the possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia prior to the election.
For his part, Trump has denied the firing had anything to do with the FBI’s investigation of his campaign, and calls reports that his campaign colluded with the Russians “fake news.”  Democrats are calling for a special, independent prosecutor to handle the investigation, however that seems unlikely.  A special prosecutor would need to be appointed by the Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, who has already recused himself from anything related to the investigation because he admitted he did have conversations with the Russia Ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak.  That leaves the responsibility of appointing a special prosecutor to the Deputy Attorney General, but he is the one who recommended Comey’s firing in the first place.
US intelligence already accused Moscow of orchestrating multiple cyberattacks against Democratic political organizations and leaking stolen info during the campaign season in an attempt to sway the election in Trump’s favor.  Trumps initial appointment for the National Security Advisor, Mike Flynn, also had to resign after it was revealed he too had communications with the Russian ambassador that he failed to disclose to Vice President Pence.
All this talk sounds so much like a spy novel; I have a hard time believing this is really our country’s political news.  So, my question to you this week is, “What do you think about the investigation into the Trump campaign’s Russia ties.  Do you think something nefarious occurred, or is the media sensationalizing the story?  Do you think we should appoint a special, independent prosecutor, or should we let the FBI continue their investigation?”  Answers are due no later than May 18th, 2018

  1. I think that if the FBI had not announced the investigation that they were doing into Trump’s ties with Russia, the director of the FBI may not have been fired. I think Trump wanted them to stop investigating him, so he fired Comey. I, also, think that even though it is said that the Deputy Attorney General suggested that Trump fire Comey, it could have been Trump’s idea all together and he is just casting the blame on someone else so that he does not look like the bad guy in this situation. Or Trump and the Deputy Attorney General could be in on it together and decided that they needed to fire Comey because the FBI may be getting too close to the truth.
I would not be surprised if the entire story was a lot worse than the way that we are hearing on the news. We may only be getting a small part or, even, a deluded version of the story
I think we should appoint someone that is a completely unbiased prosecutor to investigate what is going on.

  2. I think trump is full of it. I believe that he is defiantly hiding something but I also believe that the media is doing a ss poor job at handling the mess. As for weather or not something nefarious is happening I would say to just use Occam's razor trump is probably receiving money and/Or being blackmailed by the Russians. You know what To be honest I am just tiered of hearing about him. Trump This trump that you cant escape it Trust me I'e tried. I'm tiered of hearing about all these scandals its obvious that he is a scumbag of the highest degree. If it was any other political figure being accused of these scandals they would have lost there job already. its gotten to the point where I'm not angry at trump for doing all these Terrible thing anymore but rather the fact that absolutely nothing has been done about it. I mean seriously lets run them down Sexual-assault, Alleged Russian ties, Trump University, The Trump foundation, Neo Nazi ties, alleged rape, undocumented workers not to mention his childish behavior. After all that nothing has been done about it then he went on and became our president. they can hire a special prosecute an independent prosecutor it wont change anything we should have punished him a long time ago there is no way this guy should be our president. The whole mess has just shown me how corrupt our system is at this point I simply don"t care any more I"m just hoping against my better judgment it will all be over soon.

  3. The entire situation is a mess. We are told a lie every time we turn the page, and at this point I myself have no idea what to believe aside that all I see is more deception. Trump has shown from the beginning he would cause extreme upset among the U.S. and the world, and now he's doing exactly that. Perhaps the FBI director did poorly handle his investigation as Trump has said, but if that truly was the reasoning for his actions then he chose a very poor time to do so. With all the talk of Trump being impeached, I feel this event and his choice to disclose confidential information, while perhaps it won't be the final nail in the coffin will at least bring him closer to the chopping block.

All in all, I'm angry with being lied to, I'm angry at our government, and I'm very angry with our president.

  4. I think that Trump is full of it as well as him all of a sudden winning the president and the Russians were involved, I think that that's a little suspicious. I personally don't trust anything when it comes to the government and what happens to the president. So it could be all just nothing but I do believe that they should investigate it more into it becuause it could be more information that we need to figure out cause what if there's more issues hidden but then it's too late but in my opinion, I think they need to investigate on it until they know more.

  5. I have no idea what to think any more. It has gotten to the point where it seems like every primary source is lying to us in some way, shape, or form. If it so happens that Russia swayed the election in a favorable way, I would like something to be done about that. The sheer concept that another country had some access to change the winner under the books, is insulting. The only issue is, there is no way to find out without an investigation, and clearly everyone in the power to do that is trying to stop that. The entire situation is suspicious, but we can't get any truth on what is going on with so many people attempting to cover it up. Who knows, maybe the media is building up this fantastical hoax that never really happened. We'll never know without more investigation.

  6. While it would be fun to point and say, "This whole thing's a coverup," I'm not entirely sure that's the case. If it were anyone else in the president's position, then I would say it might be a coverup. But when it comes to Trump, I honestly don't think he has enough brains in his head to have nefarious intentions, or any intentions at all. He's a grumpy old turd who operates not on intelligence (either information or general smarts, take your pick), but on whims and fancies. He only has is own image in mind at every level of his life. It appears to me that Mean Ol' Dumple Trumple doesn't actually care about the American people beyond their opinions of him. It's not enough for his ego to just be President, he want to be thought of as the best President. He craves the adoration of the masses, and validation for his own wealth. So I'm not entirely sure if Trump is in bed with the Russians, but I most wholly support the hiring of an independent prosecutor. At the very least, Trump's firing of Director Comey in the middle of an investigation into his own affairs constitutes obstruction of justice, and he basically already confessed to that without batting an eye.

  7. I believe Trump is hiding way more than he wants everyone to believe. I do think that nefarious occurred. I think we could appoint a special, independent prosecutor, but I don't anticipate anything happening.

  8. I personally think that Trump has some sort of secret ties with Russia. How they are exactly tied together, I cant say. I do think that the media might be blowing it up slightly more than it should be, but then again, I dont know the specifics. When dealing with foreign affairs like that, whether they are good or bad, I feel like the public needs to know. Im not sure about the FBI doing the investigation, seeing as I dont know much about the FBI and who is in charge and if they have any explicit ties with Trump or not. This matter is an extremely difficult one to deal with from all sides, im sure, but it needs to be brought to the light. We the people deserve that.

  9. I definitely believe that Trump has secret ties with Russia. He's so sketchy. Especially when he fired Comey during an investigation into his own campaign. I have never trusted anything the media says because I feel that they just shout out whatever information they're getting at the time without further investigation...and I think that they over exaggerate everything so it's hard to tell if it's the truth. But I think that Trump uses his money and power to get what he wants and I don't fully trust that the FBI is doing their job or if Trump is snaking his way in to the investigation to pay people off to stay quiet. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that was what is happening. I think we need to appoint someone that is unbiased to investigate and someone who Trump cannot control.

    1. Reading your post hit the switch. Trump, "Building the Wall", the Russians; whom don't like African Blacks, it has just to be shown that we are all in danger of our own government.

  10. I am always one to point fingers at the government for keeping secrets from the country and saying this like "the government is out to control us". This is mainly because of my love for dystopian novels such as 1984. They have kind of fueled my thoughts on the unfairness that the government sends towards us. I honestly believe that trump has secret ties to Russia and the "Fake news" is just a distraction to show us how truly idiotic our president is. I definitely think that we need to appoint an outsider on the investigation to ensure that there are no biased opinions or decisions being made within itself. At the end of the day, the government doesn't want you to know anything. We are slowly creepy towards an Orwellian society. If you don't believe me, read 1984 by George Orwell. Its truly eye opening.

  11. I do think something more settling occurred during the President Donald Trump's First 100 that he was unaware of. Yes, America does support Syria and I did not know we cared so much. I know nothing about what Syria has gone through? I do know that is wasn't President's Trump's wises decision to allow Russia in to White House. I think the media is being its own curious self its always been. I do not think we need a special prosecutor for the damage has already been done. Let the FBI do their job. Period.

  12. I think that there should be a independent prosecutor, because I believe that nothing will get done. The FBI in my opinion will take the presidents side and try to cover up anything he may have done.

  13. I personally feel like Trump is harming the country and bring us down with war. The FBI should keep searching to find out what he is doing to this country and make sure he isn't harming us. Plus the Rushing thing with him sending information about American to rusha isn't the best idea. If they stop searching for him then he will lead us hopeless

  14. I honestly believe that Trump is trying to cover up something. I do believe the media has expanded it for more than it is worth (like they do with everything else!) BUT I also believe that the FBI has a right to do their job and firing someone who is doing their job LAWFULLY, is wrong. In saying so, I think we should all keep our eyes open to the bigger picture and continue to research this and not let the media fill our minds with nonsense....
