A Little Bit of Sunshine!

Like everyone else, I'm pretty tired of the snow.  Between the shoveling, the long commutes and the freezing temperatures - I'm just over it!  Which made it all the more worse this weekend, when Puxatawny Phil saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter.  I'm not sure I can make it six more weeks.

As much as I am sick of the snow, there's one place where I won't mind seeing it - Sochi, Russia. That's right - the Winter Olympics begin this week! For those who know me, you know that I am a HUGE fan of the Olympics. I love the artistry of the opening ceremonies. I get all caught up in the emotional stories of the athletes who have struggled so hard and overcome so many obstacles just to make their Olympic dreams come true. I watch sports I've never even heard of before (like curling) and I always, always cheer for the underdog.

So to bring us a little bit of sunshine this week, I thought I'd go easy on you.  My question this week is, "What is your favorite Olympic sport, and why?"  It's funny because I'm way to uncoordinated to play sports, but I love watching them on television.  My favorite Olympic sports are gymnastics and swimming, but since these are the Winter Olympics, I'm going to go with snowboarding. Their tricks look amazing!  Answers are due no later than Sunday, February 9th, 204.

  1. I would have to agree with you. My favorite sports are gymnastics and swimming for summer Olympics but for winter Olympics I would have to go with snowboarding, figure skating and hockey. Snowboarding and figure skating because of all their tricks they do and hockey because its so intense. Love the Olympics!

  2. I'm sorry to say that I don't watch the Olympics. Though I do enjoy the opening ceremonies. They are amazing just because of how intricate they are, and if I had to take to winter sports that I like they have to bebobsledding and snowboarding.

  3. My favorite Olympic sport is Figure Skating. I love to watch the skaters dance around on the ice, and I love how all the different countries have different themes. It's so fun to watch.

  4. I LOVE the winter Olympics! To me the summer Olympics are boring, there's no real action bu the summer Olympics so on edge!
I think my favorite is snowboarding, I am a hardcore Shaun White fan! IT blows my mind every time I watch it and last years final round when everyone finished their two heats and Shaun White went last. He didn't even have to do the final heat because he had already beat everyone else but he did anyways! Beat his own first run and absolutely stomped everyone else into the ground! #Amazing

I also love in line skating #ApoloAntonOhno, and I think curling is the absolute coolest game ever invented.
But honestly I just love that all of the winter games are so intense! Like at any moment someone could make the wrong move and die.. But they don't because they're so talented. Its exhilarating.

Yea, I'm super pumped for the Olympics! #Love #TeamUSA

  7. I'm so stoked for the Winter Olympics! I enjoy the Summer Olympics, but there's just something about the winter ones that make this time of year so much better and more bearable when it's this cold and snowy. My favorite sports for the Summer is gymnastics as for the Winter, it's snowboarding, figure skating and line skating. My mom and myself are HUGE Apolo Ohno fans. Go team America!

  8. Hm, I can't say much. I am not a big fan into sports. Yet I do like Skating and dance. Skating is so fun to watch from the movements and costumes(plus I like a lot of ice shows and recently went back to see Disney On Ice. ) Skating can feature of telling a story with the music, and I like it very much. It's a simple art style I look in besides acting and dancing. I wonder what will have in store for the Olympics, I liked last years because of the cool opening ceremony. Hm what will come up this year, I'll have to see it to believe it.

  9. overall I am a fan of wrestling. I wrestled in middle school an have a great appreciation for the strength and endurance required for the sport. its the hardest 15 minutes of any one's life. For winter sports I am a fan of speed skating. the speed and finesse really appeal to me.

  10. I'm not really a huge fan of the Olympics or sports for that matter. Stephanie had mentioned that she is very uncoordinated. With me, that's an understatement. However I did have Ryan Lochte as a follower on Twitter last year and the reason was not because I paid attention to the Olympics. While I just told on myself that I found him attractive. I think if I had a more idea of sports then I will probably be more in tune to sports and I will probably be into the Olympics.

  11. My favorite Olympic sport is track and field because I have been running track since I was a little kid running around on the track and beating everyone. I loved running for high school and competing in AAU track and field its so fast paced and unpredictable. its not your average sport, you cant just run any kind of way or run half assed or you will get hurt and track injuries aren't your average injuries. It takes strength, speed, flexibility, coordination, and endurance to be a great athlete and that's why track is my favorite.

  12. My favorite Olympic Games sport is the luging bob-sled. The sled has either a one to two pair runner system where all the runs pull the weight of the sled down. The first runner to jump in steers the wheel or other navigational mechanism while the others riding behind as they chute the obstacles run. The obstacle course is built like a rollercoaster for the sled to navigate through and the runners remind me of track runners preparing for their specific meter dash while bobsledders are building the momentum of their mechanism. The bobsledders lung high into to air as the warm their muscles for exercise. The bob-sled was introduced into the Olympic Games in 1924, which I thing is the more enduring fact about the games, that they have become so diverse for interest and mastery. Welcoming a new sport into the games is a great opportunity to turn more fans into athletes. This year, the bobsled track goes through 17 curves with a vertical drop of 132 m from top to bottom. The athleticism and collective energy each contender on each team member pulling the sled helps push the sled down the path as fast as possible. Normally, I would admire the finesse and technique of sports like figure skating or gymnastics but bobsledding has the potential of excitement within the few seconds each team runs.

  16. I truly love the Olympics, summer (41 categories) and winter (15 categories). During the winter Olympics, I love watching Figure Skating and Snowboarding. I started watching Bob-sleighing after the Jamaicans started their team. I would like to know beside being on your stomach and being on your back what is the difference between Luge and Skeleton...

  18. I'm not really into sports like most people. I feel its a bit repititive but I will watch the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics from time to time. Think I would have to say the Snowboarding, both the Slope and the Half Pipe runs would have to be my favorite. I like that tricks the participants perform and the fact that it looks like they're flying for a moment. I've always been pretty intrigued by it.

  20. I don't think I've watched the Olympics since I was a kid and it took over my cartoon stations. When I had to watch it I loved ice skating (the pretty costumes!) and the bobsled teams. Honestly, I think those were all my mom watched so that's a default answer. "'Nuff people say they know they cant believe, jamaica we have a bobsled team!"

  21. My favorite event is really the snowboarding! The tricks that they do and the snowboarders back stories are very impressive. I also do my best to stay involved when it comes to the Olympics to see most of the events and keep up with all the Olympians. The reason why I enjoy the snowboarding in particular is that I plan on learning to snowboard and make it a passion after my education.
