Obama's Presidential News Conference

This week's blog will be a short post. As you all know, President Obama held a prime time news conference last Wednesday. Hopefully, some of you caught it live, but if not, you can access a full transcript of the address at the following link:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/04/barack-obama-news-conference-text.html

My questions to you this week are, "What do you think President Obama answered best? What did you think he could have done a better job on? Was there an issue that wasn't addressed that you wish would've been?"

Answers are due by Sunday, May 10th, 2009.

  1. I think President Obama did an excellent job of expressing the steps that the Federal Government is taking in dealing with the economic crisis we find ourselves currently in. He also put this topic in a very key position directly after the introduction as to capture the most amount of attention.

One of the key points I feel he made well was not only what the government is doing to try and rectify the current situation but also what measures are being put into place to make sure that we don't suffer a similar crisis again.

I feel like President Obama could have better addressed the issue of dealing with student debt in regards to the economic climate. Students made up a large percentage of his grassroots voters/campaign workers and as a candidate that ran on a clear youth movement our issues need to be addressed.

  2. I will agree with Topher, he did show what the government is doing to deal with these economic times. I thought he did a pretty good job on everything he covered, but thats me. I also think he covered everything to me, I think he addressed all the issues that I can think so far.

  3. I would also have to agree with Topher. Also I thought that it was kind of funny that he had to tell us to cover our mouths and wash our hands. But if thats what will help with the swine flu or should I say H1N1 flu then go ahead and tell us.
I can not think of any thing else that he could have addressed.

  5. I believe the president covered what we should know for the time being and I believe that he did it clearly and concise.

  6. I believe the question President Obama answered best was when he was asked; “During these first 100 days what has surprised you the most about this office? Enchanted you the most from serving in this office? Humbled you the most? And troubled you the most?" I totally admired his responses to these questions and believe because of his values, morals, attitude, integrity, and is intellect is the reason why he answered them so sincerely - he is an awesome person. Honestly I think he answered all of the questions presented to him in an intelligent and professional manner to the best of his given ability. There was no issue that wasn't addressed that I wished would've been because I believe every speaking engagement he's called to, whatever the subject matter being addressed is of importance to me. I state this because he did give compliments to the American People for their patience. We must all remain patient and realize it took time to get into this mess and it will take time to get out. We must do what we can and that is to start at home with our own families and children to instruct them with the correct information and by helping and sharing in any kind of way we can to meet a need. This seems as though the first time in history where so many major issues are at hand all at the same time, how do you address all of these enormous issues at once, with results all at the same time, is the question. Thank you, Shannon Sellars

  7. I think the speech that President Obama did was very good and I think he made some good points. I think Obama answered the questions about the war and other countries good. I thought he did a good job talking about the Chryster and GM industry, however, i felt he didnt go into much detail about the whole situation. He did a good job on telling people that it doesnt matter why certain people change parties. They are all here to help our country, that worrying about who changed to democrate is not so important right now. I just wish he would have talked more about how all this money is going to really affect things, instead of saying I have high hope for everything. Other than that, I thought our President did a good job.

  8. I think that President Obama did a fine job of covering the issues.
Our nation is trying to recover from numerous issues from the war in Iraq to our economic disaster. However, I think Obama is doing a good job of guiding us in the right direction. I think he has been a great leader and has responded to many of our recent issues to the best of his ability.

  9. I would have to with Stacy on this one. I didn't watch the news conference and really don't feel like watching it. I have watched enough of his speeches during the election. I just can't get into this man being our president. I think he has a lot of American people snowed. He said a lot of things that people wanted to hear. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all about giving some one a chance to prove himself. So Obama! Get to it!

  10. I didn't watch the news conference but I did read the manuscript. I believe President Obama did an excellent job answering the ecomonic crisis and healthcare. He seems to be on top of the economy getting back on track along with the health care. I think he covered everything well. I don't know of any other issues he should have addressed.

  11. I think President Obama did a good job answering most of the questions. The only one I question was saving and creating over 150,000 jobs. It seemed like he did a good job of convincing the media that those numbers were accurate but he never gave facts of how he came up with them.

  12. I believe that President Obama did a good job answering the questions, and I feel that he gave a nice overview of most of the issues that are plaguing the country. I do agree with Topher with needing to cover the issues of students and debt. I am personally trying to take steps to educate myself and be prepared to take on these loans when I graduate.

  14. I really think that President Obama is headed in the right direction, he seemed to touch on everything that is concerning Americans today. The plan that he has hopefully will bring us out of this terible recession that we are in. Let's all just pray that it works sooner than later!

  15. I believe President Obama did a great job adressing all current topics of interest. I think I most liked the section addressing the H1N1 topic. I think there has been way too much hype about it and it's really getting to people. I understand it's a serious topic, but it doesn't need to be exaggerated. As the President said, this is a cause for deep concern, but not panic.

  16. Class,
I did not see the telecast, but I reviewed the transcript. I believe that what was said is the same things that he has been saying over and over again. When I voted for this man, I had high hopes that he would follow through with the promises that he made throughout his campaign. I have yet to see him keep his word on several of the key reasons that I voted for him in the first place, but I guess after all the hype and moving speeches the only place that my expectations could have gone was up. I feel that after his first 100 days, I am still waiting for his promises to come true. I hope that these promises will be kept, and that he did not do what most other presidential nominees do during their campaign, and Lie to attract more voters. I voted for change and I have not seen the change that I was promised thus far.

  17. I did not get to see the broadcast but I read the transcript he is doing a good job with the issues that we are facing I do not think he will fix them all but he is trying his best there is a great deal to take care of. Unemployment keeps increasing and it is getting bad , but he is doing all that he can to turn things around.

  18. i think that obama did a good job answereing the questions. i think that it is a good thing that he is adressing our biggest issue and giving some support behind his answers in why he is doing what he is doing. i agree with topher that something that could of been done differently is try to pin point certain groups and let them know how their lifes will be changed.

  19. i think obama answered his questions very thoroughly. he has a knack for public speaking and has a charisma about him that i have not seen from other politicians. however i would have liked to hear him talk more about student loans and financial aid. i remember reading something about him offering financial aid to students who pledge to volunteer for 1 year after they graduate and i would have liked to hear more details about it.
